Bushra qualified with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1999 from Guy's King's and St Thomas’s Dental Institute. This was followed by a series of specialist hospital posts in maxillofacial surgery and paediatric dentistry. During this time Bushra gained her Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

She completed her Speciality Orthodontic Training in 2006 obtaining a Masters in Orthodontics (MOrth) as well as her Membership of Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons.

Bushra is on the specialist list with the General Dental Council as well as a member of the Specialist Practitioner Group of the British Orthodontic Society.

Her ethos is based on providing high quality orthodontic treatment centred on patient care and comfort.

Bushra was introduced to orthodontics as a child at the age of 13 and set off on her own journey to have straight teeth and an improved smile. Following four teeth extractions and 18 months of fixed braces, her life felt revolutionised. Bushra went from being a shy and self-conscious teenager to being confident and proud of her beautiful smile, courtesy of her wonderful orthodontist. Feeling inspired she began her long journey into orthodontics, so she could bring such pleasure to others.

Being a mum of three young boys keeps Bushra very busy and leaves little free time for herself. However, in those precious moments, she enjoys making jewellery and exercising. She’s also involved in local charities, which allows her to give back to the community in different ways. Bushra loves to travel and see different parts of the world and even with young children, she continues to travel the world and share this passion with them.

Dr Ian Grobler

Specialist Orthodontist

Prior to this, he graduated in Dentistry from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa in 1990 and thereafter practiced general dentistry in Farnham, Surrey for five years. He then committed to three year’s full time postgraduate orthodontic training at Guy’s Hospital, Mayday University Hospital and East Surrey Hospital.

Ian prioritises maintaining a close working relationship with other specialists and has treated a vast number of complex cases which required a combined multi-disciplinary approach. Having handled well in excess of 15,000 orthodontic cases, he is experienced in his field and committed to consistently expanding his knowledge through regularly attending conferences, workshops and lectures.

Helping to guide colleagues and mentees towards success is another area Ian derives huge enjoyment from. Since 2010, he has diligently mentored his Orthodontic Therapists, with a number of them securing “student of the year” awards. During 2017 – 2019, he carried out the role of Clinical Supervisor in Orthodontics, teaching post graduate students at the Eastman Dental hospital in London. He has also previously taught orthodontic programmes to dental nurses as part of their Certificate in Orthodontic Nursing at Southern Dental Trainers

Beyond his clinical duties, Ian has delivered lectures at the annual conference for the British Orthodontic Society. Topics included: ‘In Practice’ Clinical Tips; Utilisation of the Orthodontic Therapist in Clinic; and Guidance to Training Administration and Reception Teams in Clinical Procedures. The latter proved to greatly assist in the patient journey.

Ian takes great pleasure and pride in making a difference to the individual lives of his patients and is well placed to take good care of you and/or your children’s orthodontic needs.

Sophie Bonsall

Practice Manager

In 2019 Sophie joined Portman where she took on the role as Head Nurse and assisted in setting up the Smile Clinic in Dorking. Sophie’s passion became very evident and led her to be appointed as Practice Manager 3 months into her role. Sophie has always loved her career being extremely patient focused and will always go above and beyond for both her team and patients to help all where she can.

In her spare time Sophie can largely be found renovating her property or socialising with family and friends.

Sophie Noske

Orthodontic Therapist

Registered with the GDC and a member of the Orthodontic Nurses and Therapist National Group, Sophie was an examiner for the Orthodontic Therapy Examination at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Continued Professional development is important to Sophie and she attends courses with the British Orthodontic Society and other teaching bodies regularly. In her spare time Sophie also enjoys helping others achieve their goals in mentoring, spending time with her family and cooking.

Georgia Cook

Orthodontic Therapist

Previously she trained as a dental nurse and oral health educator. Georgia likes to focus on helping patients feel at ease throughout their orthodontic journey. Her own orthodontic treatment with fixed braces has given her a true insight to the experience and an understanding of the process.

She started her orthodontic journey in administration and in 2004 trained and qualified to be a dental nurse. Babsie continued her education with training in orthodontic nursing and dental radiography. In 2011 she went to study at Warwick University Medical School and was awarded a Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy.

Alanna feels we have a wonderful team in Dorking and that it’s a pleasure to work with such a talented team base. Since joining Portman in August 2019, Alanna has worked extremely hard to gain a wealth of experience in Orthodontics alongside achieving her Dental Radiography qualification. As of July 2021, Alanna will be transitioning to Head Nurse for the practice and looks forward to widening her knowledge further as she progresses in her career.

With a passion for travel and culture, I spent most of my time working for travel companies both as cabin crew and coordinating holidays. Wanting to continue in a public facing role in a different industry, I an now in my 2^nd year working in dentistry and Orthodontics.

In my spare time I enjoy pilates, yoga, spinning, gardening, reading and travelling to new places.
